Chamfer depth and Z offset formula

A chamfer is specified by its width and angle. When programming a chamfer mill, you need the axial depth (how deep the tool goes) and the Z-axis offset from the sharp corner. This calculator converts the chamfer specification into CNC-ready values.

• Chamfer depth = width / tan(angle) -- axial engagement of the chamfer tool
• Z-axis offset = width / sin(angle) -- distance from the sharp edge to the tool centreline
• Common angles: 45 deg (depth = width), 60 deg (depth ≈ 0.577 × width), 30 deg (depth ≈ 1.732 × width)
